Development of our Digipak

This was our second attempt at the digitak. After the feedback we received in the first attempt we changed it up completely. We decided to change the front cover to this picture which is also used on the front page of our website. We felt by using the same photo there is a connection between our products in which the audience would see the band. Moreover, as we wanted to sell the band as an organic and authentic rock band we put it in black and white to give it a retro look. This is also similar to are other products as our music video is a live performance with a black and white tint to give it this retro feel as well as the website being in black and white. I felt that if all our products was similar colour it was be effective and a lot easier to sell the star image of the band being an organic and authentic band. We used a different picture on the inside of the cover in which was a more relaxed photo to demonstrate another side to the band. We also added the bands logo on the inside so that when the fans open up the album they will see the logo which we automatically grab their attention. Finally, on the back, we added our track list and put in the corner the record label are band has been signed to.

How we will film our music video

How we are going to film our video

We are going to have the song playing in the background. And we will film everything from a wide so we can see all the band members. Further to this we will film close ups of every band member conducting their job. We will also get close ups of the instruments in use in particular parts of the song. To produce a high quality viewing perspective we will use a lot of quick cuts in time of the beat. We will also have the privilege of using two cameras to enhance the shot. This will allow us to have two shots at the same time.
The use of low angle and high angle aswell and side shots and close ups will be the main make up of our video but also the passion and hardwork of the performers will rub off into the performance which was one of the problem from our previous run through

To make sure we get the best use out the camera, we will also take advantage of the balcony in the theatre where we can get some high angle shots looking down at the band, which will add another dimension
The video will be filmed in one location making it easier and will make understanding the video easier

Feedback on new idea

After getting back this feedback from our target audience we received so much positive feedback that we will be going ahead with this idea. From the feedback we got we it was made clear that our plan to get the band to be portrayed as organic is succesful in our plan for or music video. Originality is crucial for our band and it is clear that we are getting this due to the feedback that we got. We want our band to have that original feel to it because as we are an upcoming band and fans get attached get more passionate about a band if they are individual and different and have their own edge to it. They all liked the idea of a live performance and as are whole music video will be on this this is vital as our music video is what can potentially increase our fan base to hopefully become world wide. Overall it has been a success because now we are able to see that our idea for our music video is a good idea.

Location and Costume Update

Location of our music video:

The theatre is located in school like the making it  very convenient meaning we have more time to edit and perfect the look of our video. It will  will be used as a venue where it will showing the band performing the song live as if it was at one of their own concerts.

Our band members will be looking smart wearing suits or just shirts  giving it everything for the performance. This shows the band is authentic by performing with the musical instruments and by wearing suits with a dark tinted lenses on the camera which gives it a retro look and feel to it. Our band can be compared to The Beatles and Peyote in the sense of what the band is wearing. We can also be compared to the like of the music video of Hey Ya by Outcast

1st Idea For Album Cover

We felt as a group this would be a really good front cover for the album. The red font really grabbed our attention which highlights the bands name, and we felt this would draw the audiences attention to who the band where. The photo we chose was a picture of all of the band members doing the same pose to connote a sense of togetherness and they have a close bond.

After getting feedback from our audience, we noticed that the picture wasn't central. Moreover, some people did't think the title was intriguing they felt as if it was a bit dull and not bold which didn't grab their attention. Some people also felt that the picture was a bit blurry and that we should change it up. The finally point made by the feedback we received was that it should be in black and white.

Idea for Music video

New Ideas:

This music video really inspired us for a few ideas we would like to add to our own music video. First of all, as we want to sell our band as an authentic and organic band we our filming it as a live performance. Moreover, we have around 25 seconds at the beginning of our song where we would like to do a time lapse of our band setting up the equipment and instruments to perform for their gig and we see a very similar thing in this music video as we see all the equipment and instruments being set up before one of their concerts, as well as this, the band is performing live as a rehearsal.

Music Videos Similar to our New idea

Similar Music Videos:

These music videos are all similar to our music video as we were inspired to do film ours as a live performance just like these. The reason we wanted to do this is so we can sell them as an organic band. We felt that the live footage was the stagnate part of our footage so far and as it is a rock band therefore, we are going to use the new format to launch them as a new live band. We are adding to the organic nature of the artists and selling their star appeal as real musicians that are authentic performers not like a pop synthetic pop band. To give them a feel of a live performance we are going to give them a retro television visual programme and this will help sell them as an authentic band to the audience. We have looked at Ed Sullivan show and we are going to focus on a live television broadcast to introduce the band.

Band Logos

Clearly, these bands have iconic logos with synopsis with rock, they all have black backgrounds due to the darkness which highlights the genre of their music which is rock. There is a sense of energy and vibrance of the logos. They also have bright colours as well which catches audiences attention.

Auditions for our lead singer

Auditions :

When deciding on our lead singer in the band we narrowed it down to three people who seemed a potential fit for ur band. These were Sam Steinberg, Freddy Kramer, Rob Elman. After analysing the 3 of them we came to a joint agreement that Sam Steinberg would be best fitted to be our main singer. We felt as if he portrayed the most 'rock star' look I'n the way in which he performed as he was extremely passionate. As well as this,he could attract out target audience which includes young girls due to his good looks. It is very important that the main member our our band is seen as attractive to the audience because it can help increase the fanbase

Feedback To Change Idea

Changing our idea:

After receiving feedback from other pupils in our school the feedback we got from a lot of criticism and we have decided to change our idea and film our music video again.

The cristism and feedback we received included:

  • We had too much focus and camera time on our lead singer during the intro.
  • The band wasn't introduced early enough so it didn't look right.
  • There wasn't a wide enough variety of shots and people wanted more.
  • Our lead singer wasn't singing in the studio and it didn't look effective.
  • There were also shots which had an unsteady camera and didn't look professional enough.

Following consultation  of our group, the amount of work required actually involves re-shooting the whole idea, we will now focus on the live performance to sell them as an organic band.

We have been influenced by 'The Beatles', and the Ed Sullivan show and we are going to focus on a live television broadcast to introduce the band.

Our tasks as follows:

Look at live performances of Ed Sullivan Show

We will look at the costumes of bands in the 50s and 60s.

The positioning of bands in a live show rot make it look authentically live.
