Analysis Of Album Cover

This is the album ‘Rocket to Russia/ which was the Ramones debut album released in 1977. We can see their is 4 band members all wearing the same style clothes which is a stereotypical 1970's rock band look - wearing black leather jackets with long hair and skinny jeans. The fact that they are against a brick wall suggests they are urban and have an edge to band which demonstrates their rebellious side. As well as this, they are all next to each other highlights they are close and like a gang. They have used a big bold font and colour in which their band name and album is in. They have done this because it is their first album, they want it to be highlighted who they are so they can get known easier. Their stance shows that they are anti-authoritarian and this is also symbolised through their clothing and this related to their genre which was punk. Punk is symbolic of anti-authoritarian attitudes and rebelliousness therefore, linking to their star image.

When constructing a star image for an artist it is vital that we think about how it relates to the genre as well. As we are designing an album cover for the rock band, we will need to think about how the bands image relates to the genre.
